Wolverines playoff run ends in loss at Rancho Christian

The ANHS Varsity Boys basketball team had its CIF playoff run end with a quarterfinal loss (81-70) on the road to a talented Rancho Christian squad on Tuesday night (2/21).  The team finished with a record of 19-12 overall and 4-4 in league play.  There were many great moments for the Wolverines, especially toward the end of the season as their play improved greatly.  With many members of the team returning, the future of ANHS basketball certainly looks bright.

Wolverines win first two CIF playoff games--headed to quarterfinals

The ANHS Varsity Boys basketball team won a home playoff 1st round game on Wednesday night (2/15) against Corona HS (70-61) to advance to the second round and travel to Knight HS in Palmdale.  After a more than five hour bus ride in the rain, and with very little warmup time, the Wolverines fell behind 10-0 and 16-4 in the 1st quarter.  The lead was cut to 2 points by halftime, but was increased again to 14 points in the 4th quarter.  After some 3-point shots, ANHS was down by 7 with under 2 minutes to go.  Another 3-pointer, a steal and 3-point play, another steal and basket, and a defensive stop with 2 foul shots brought the Wolverines back to one of the best comebacks in school history and a 61-60 victory that no one involved will ever forget.

Wolverines win Senior Night; lose final game to tie for 2nd in league

The ANHS Varsity Boys basketball team won its final regular season home game against Laguna Hills (85-77) on Tuesday night (2/7), which meant everyone could celebrate Senior Night.  The Wolverines would lose their regular season finale at Trabuco Hills (71-63), which left the team in a 2nd place tie (with Trabuco Hills) for the South Coast League season.  Playoff brackets will come out on Sunday (2/12) to determine the placing of ANHS in the CIF 2A division.  

Wolverines sweep both games this week; Senior Night next Tuesday

The ANHS Varsity basketball team had two big victories this week, winning first on the road at El Toro (70-65) on this past Wednesday night (2/1).  The Wolverines then followed that up with a great team victory at home over Tesoro (64-54) on Friday (2/3).  The team begins to finish its regular season next week with the final home game (Senior Night) against Laguna Hills at 7 pm on Tuesday (2/7). 

Wolverines lose two on the road this week

The ANHS boys basketball team lost both of its games this week, both of which were on the road.  On Wednesday, the team had a very sluggish effort against Capo Valley (77-48) in a non-league game.  The Wolverines then came back with one of their better efforts of the season (especially in the second half) in narrow league loss at San Clemente (50-48).  The record for ANHS now stands at 14-10 overall and 2-3 in South Coast League action.  The Wolverines will play next week at El Toro on Wednesday and at home against Tesoro on Friday with both games beginning at 7 pm.

The ANHS boys basketball team split its two league games last week, which left its record at 14-8 overall and 2-2 in South Coast League play.  The Wolverines lost at Tesoro (70-47) on Wednesday night, but came back to defeat Trabuco Hills (61-34) at home on Friday night.  The team will travel to play road games at Capo Valley on Wednesday night and at San Clemente on Friday night next week at 7 pm.

The ANHS boys basketball team opened South Coast League play with a victory over El Toro (70-67) on Wednesday night, but lost a close game to San Clemente on Friday night (63-59).  The Wolverines continue league play next week with games at Tesoro on Wednesday and at home on Friday against Trabuco Hills.  Both games begin at 7 pm.

Wolverines win at Sunny Hills; open league play next

The ANHS boys basketball team finished up its non-league schedule with an exciting 71-70 victory at Sunny Hills on Tuesday (1/3).  The Wolverines finally took control late in the game that had gone back and forth, and held on for the win.  The team will open South Coast League play on Wednesday, January 11th at 7 pm against El Toro High School at home and play again at home on Friday, January 13th against San Clemente High School.

Wolverines lose in double OT in Consolation Championship in Torrey Pines Tournament

The ANHS boys basketball split four games in the Torrey Pines Tournament after Christmas with the last game being a double overtime loss to Canyon Crest (68-63) in the Consolation Championship.  The Wolverines had to deal with injuries and sickness to key players all week and lost to eventual winner Mission Bay (67-60), and defeated Lodi (59-51) and Sage Creek (61-49).  ANHS wil travel to Sunny Hills on Tuesday, January 3rd at 7pm for its final non-league game.

ANHS splits two games before Christmas

The ANHS boys basketball team defeated a scrappy St. Margaret's team (75-72) on the road in overtime before losing to Huntington Beach (63-41) in the North-South Challenge at El Toro High School.  The Wolverines will get a few days off for Christmas before starting play up again in the Torrey Pines Tournament.  ANHS will play from 12/27 to 12/30 at El Camino high School in Oceanside.
